Our new VIP Texas Longhorn Experience gives guests the chance to go inside the pens with our ranch staff and hand-feed our Texas Longhorns from just inches away. This is personal time with the herd, close enough to really take in their incredible size, their markings and, of course, those horns. Some of ours measure more than 100 inches from tip to tip, something that takes on a whole new perspective when the Longhorn is right there beside you.

And have your phone ready. Being right there with the herd gives you some incredible opportunities for photos and videos. You can capture the Longhorns eating right from your hand, get pics alongside those massive 100+ inch horns, and take home plenty of up-close moments to share with friends and family.

Meet Our Longhorns
It didn’t take us long to learn that every member of this herd has a fun and quirky personality of their own.
Maggie, is our beautiful red-speckled cow and tends to be a little more independent. She often keeps to herself rather than following the rest of the herd around. Her young bull calf, Fire, has been growing quickly and becoming more independent himself. Her horns are amazing and we will tell you all about them on your visit!
Fiddle, is easy to recognize by her beautiful brindle coat. She’s super friendly and curious and has become one of the familiar faces guests enjoy meeting. We laugh that she will surely be the first you to greet you.
Then there’s Serenity Grace. She wasted no time establishing herself when she arrived at the ranch. During her first days here, she would head over to join the other Longhorns and, almost on cue, they would all run the other way. Her horns are massive and herds have a social order, and Serenity Grace seemed to climb to the top of the herd have herd pretty quickly.
We also have our two steers, Cherry Boy and Red, rounding out the herd. They will surely be all up in your business trying to get the treats first. They are small, cute and irresistible. You truly want to hug them.
Getting to know their different personalities has been one of our favorite parts of having Longhorns at the ranch. When you spend time inside the pens with them instead of simply watching from a distance, you start noticing those differences too.
More Than Just Really Big Horns

Of course, it’s nearly impossible to talk about our Longhorns without talking about their horns.
We have Longhorns with elite-level horns measuring more than 100 inches tip-to-tip (TTT). That means the measurement from the tip of one horn straight across to the tip of the other exceeds 100 inches. Pictures don’t quite convey that kind of size. Seeing them from just inches away does.
During your experience, one of our staff members stays with you inside the pens, shows you how to safely interact with the herd and lets you hand-feed the Longhorns their treats. There’s plenty of time for pictures, videos, questions and learning a little about the animals you’re meeting along the way.
Texas Longhorns at the Double S Ranch
The Longhorns are the newest members of a much larger four-legged family here at Double S Ranch at Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort, which also includes dozens of beautiful horses that have been a big part of ranch life here for over 35 years.
Our family ranch was established in 1991, and over the years these 850 acres have become home to horses, cattle and plenty of other animals, along with two private lakes, miles of wooded trails and the cabins and lake houses our guests know as Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort.
Adding a registered Texas Longhorn herd was something we had wanted to do. We chose these animals not only for those extraordinary horns, but because the Texas Longhorn belongs in this landscape. There’s something about looking across a Texas pasture and seeing them out there that completes us.Now we get to share that part of the ranch with our guests too.
