If you have spent time at Deer Lake Cabins Ranch Resort, you already know there is an office greeter, trail companion, porch sitter, treat beggar and guest favorite who has been here over a dozen years. Blue. 
He has spent his life wandering the ranch with the calm confidence of a dog who knows every trail, every cabin, and every guest who steps on the property. He used to lead trail rides, trot beside the horses, and stay with the crew during long workdays.
Blue Has Become Part of the Ranch
Now he moves slower, but he still shows up in all the places that matter. The office porch. Cookouts. Quiet mornings by the lake. Any spot where guests gather.Guests talk about him constantly on social media. They share photos of him walking up gently for a pat, resting beside families at the fire pit, appearing in the background of pictures, and somehow ending up riding shotgun in your UTV when you weren’t looking. (He still refuses to ride in the backseat.) Many families say Blue is one of their favorite parts of the stay. He has become part of the identity of the ranch. He checks on staff, visits cabins, strolls through the barn, naps in the shade, and arrives right when someone needs a calm companion. Kids think he belongs to them for the weekend.
Before long, kids and adults alike fall in love with him. Returning guests often ask at check in if Blue is still around. And one of us will go and find him. Blue is part of the Double S family story. He has lived almost his entire life on our 850 acres. He has seen new horses arrive, new cabins built, new trails created, new smiling staff members, and thousands of guests come and go. He has greeted military reunions, honeymooners, grandparents, parents, children, and guests from all over the world. Almost everyone leaves with a Blue story!
A Friend Guests Never Forget
Blue is woven into the story of the ranch like sunsets and sunrises are on Deer Lake…..And former ranch dogs: Mikey, Oreo and Shiner. Our Blue is a constant, a steady, a peaceful friend, and he makes us laugh. We are so grateful to have him! If you have met him, you understand. If you have not met him yet, he will be waiting on the porch.
